My plan for Toronto’s senior citizens

My plan for Toronto’s senior citizens

post

I want to be a voice for our senior citizens. As Mayor, I will make sure Toronto is an age friendly City.

I will fight for: BETTER SNOW REMOVAL AND WINDROW CLEARING- KEEPING TORONTO AFFORDABLE- CUTTING 15% OF THE LAND TRANSFER TAX- IMPROVING WHEEL TRANS- MORE RECREATION PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS.

I know that Toronto seniors want better transportation, more accessibility, and they want their taxes kept low.

Today, the City of Toronto is focused on helping seniors:

We spend $231-million each year on our long term care homes and services.

We distribute 2400 meals per week- through great programs like Meals on Wheels.

We are increasing staffing levels at Long Term Care Homes and investing to redevelop facilities like Kipling Acres.

We have secured more provincial funding for our seniors.

We are investing millions of dollars in retrofitting subway stations to make them more accessible.

We are increasing and improving Wheel-Trans Service.

We are working hard to keep taxes low for senior citizens.

And we are expanding recreation programs for our seniors.

All of these great initiatives are making life just a little easier for our senior citizens.

But I know we can do even better.

I have listened to our seniors and I know what they want.

I know snow removal is a major issue for our senior citizens.

I will invest to improve snow removal services and make snow removal and sidewalk snow removal more frequent.

I will expand the windrow clearing program to avoid snow piling up on your property.

And I will work with our partners to increase and improve the affordable snow removal services available to seniors.

I will support more recreation programs for seniors.

I also want to improve Wheel Trans service for seniors.

I know that we can do so much better when it comes to serving our seniors with Wheel Trans.

I will conduct a complete overhaul of the Wheel Trans system. To make sure it is working better for you.

But most importantly, I will continue fighting to keep our City affordable.

I have committed to keeping property taxes as low as possible, below the rate of inflation.

I also am very proud of my plan to reduce the dreaded Land Transfer Tax by over 15%.

This will keep thousands of dollars in the pockets of our senior citizens who might be forced to downsize.

I believe this money is better spent by you, on furniture or renovations, creating jobs and stimulating our economy.

My plan is getting back to the basics, keeping taxes low and leaving money in your pockets, where it belongs.

Friends, I humbly ask that on October 27th you remember:

I am the only candidate who will keep your taxes low.

I’m the only one who will build 32km of new subways

And I’m the only one with a plan to save you thousands of dollars by cutting 15% of the Land Transfer Tax.
