New subway lines will connect our City and create jobs, growth and prosperity.
With your support, our City will undertake a bold subway expansion project. A subway expansion that will rival any City in the world.
Together we will build 32 KM of new rapid underground transit.
There is a reason why world class cities around the world build impressive subway networks:
Subways are faster, more reliable- and most importantly, subways don’t disrupt traffic.
Tokyo, for example, has built an extensive subway system. They have 290 stations along 13 lines. The London Underground has 402 KM of track and 270 stations.
Friends, these are cities that Toronto is competing with every day in the global economy. Cities vying against us for Jobs and investment.
Toronto is the economic engine of Canada, our City must stay competitive. This means keeping taxes low and investing in transportation infrastructure- the backbone of our economy.
The Federal and Provincial governments understand this. They are willing to invest in subways, and I want to work with them to deliver new subways for Toronto. We have done it once for the people of Scarborough, and we can do it again.
Under this administration we have worked hard on building underground transit. Today, projects like the Eglinton Crosstown, the Subway to Vaughan and the Scarborough Subway are well underway. Better transit is coming.
My competitors will build surface rail. Transit that will only last 30 years before needing to be replaced- look at the Scarborough RT. It’s like buying a cheap car and expecting it to last for your grandchildren.
Even worse, John Tory wants to build surface trains along key roads like Sheppard, Finch and Eglinton- taking up lanes of traffic on these key roads.
Imagine the congestion nightmare this would create. It will destroy our City- traffic will grind to a halt.
Think where our City would be today if our forefathers didn’t invest in building Toronto’s subway system. Building subways is the only option that makes sense.
I have the vision, the plan and the backbone to do it. And with your support on October 27th we will do it.
Together we will build an impressive underground transit network… A subways system our City will take pride in.
